We’re live!

Good news, everyone! The server is now running and we’re ready to go.

Remember, you’ll need the Spoutcraft client to connect now. Get it at http://dev.bukkit.org/client-mods/spoutcraft/ and have fun!

Do note that some stuff is still slightly buggy, but I’ll continue to work on things going forward. I didn’t want to keep holding it back and keep you guys waiting. :-)

I’m back, now what?

Ok, I’m now back from vacation and working on the server update. Just a fair heads up to folks, this will take a bit of work, and it’s looking like I may not get it done tonight. Here’s what’s going down:

  • The original Permissions plugin is no longer being updated. This means I have to re-do the permissions configuration under a newer plugin supporting Bukkit’s built-in permissions system. This shouldn’t be too bad since everything will be staying in the YAML format, so I’ll be able to do a fair bit of copy-paste.
  • Citizens has had another major update, and the config for that will have to be deleted and redone from scratch again…
  • Same goes for Essentials, but that should be quicker to take care of, since the config needs to be modified again anyway.

I’m also going to try resetting the Minecart Mania configuration completely, in an effort to get carts working again. The rest of the process shouldn’t be too bad, though.

UPDATE: Work is nearly complete. All plugins have now been updated successfully. Permissions are functional, but I need to make some more updates for new stuff.

Minecarts are also now (mostly) working again. The problem appears to stem from how MM handles cart movement events. As a result, the powered rail blocks are broken inside the plugin. So, I’ve disabled their action through MM for now as a workaround. They should still boost from their natural behavior, but I have not fully tested long tracks to see if they work fine.

Ok, so…

While Bukkit has updated for Minecraft 1.8.1, most of the plugins we’ve got haven’t been updated yet. That on it’s own wouldn’t be much of a problem, but I’m on vacation for the next week, and won’t be around to do that update right away. So, here’s what’s happening:

  • A temporary ‘sandbox’ server has been put up.
  • This sandbox is running in creative mode, and everyone that’s been on the main server has been given op rights.
  • Stuff will not necessarily be deleted when I get back. Stuff people want to keep or otherwise cool stuff can be imported to the main world later.

I’ll try and get the main server taken care of on my return. If something breaks before then, contact Twigz221 or ProtoDraz. They know how to reach me.

As far as the update on the main server itself goes, there are a few things that need mentioning:

  • World data has been trimmed to roughly just the developed areas that were visible. This way, people won’t have to go far to get areas generated by the new algorithms.
  • Notch changed sea level in 1.8. It is now 1 block lower. The main world has been adjusted to match, by deleting the bottom-most layer. Your mines may be affected! (Though from what I could see in MCEdit, it was mainly my mine that was messed up. Everyone else’s didn’t seem to stay at bedrock much.)
  • The server will be taking advantage of the features Spout provides. This means that the Spout client mod will be required! Get it here: http://dev.bukkit.org/client-mods/spoutcraft/
  • As a consequence of requiring the Spout client mod, the Zombe mod will no longer be supported. Flight will be permitted via a plugin at first, but will eventually be disabled. I’ve been getting a number of complaints that the challenge is disappearing with it on. This is supposed to be a Survival server, after all. We want to promote the rail travel (once I can fix it) and the other transport systems that are being built as the main method of getting around in Drazistan.
  • The economy is still a bit out of whack. Item prices will likely be adjusted to compensate.

I think that about does it for now. I’ll update as I am able. Hopefully, I don’t return to be greeted with 1.9 right away…
